A bit more about myself

I was born in Chivasso (TO), Italy, on May 28th 1988.

I currently reside in Dublin (Ireland, Republic of).

I've always been passionate about scientific research, as, I believe, it is the best system we have to get closer to the truth. I am very happy to say that it is also my profession!

In addition, I love water sport (especially swimming and surfing), I'm a foodie and I'm a passionate PokemonGo player!

Research Experience and Education

Apr, 2023- ongoing

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow

Department of Computer Science and Statistics, ADAPT Centre, Trinity College Dublin (Ireland)

Human+ Fellowship Programme https://humanplus.ie/

https://www.adaptcentre.ie/

https://www.scss.tcd.ie/

I further develop my research line on the visual manipulations of the virtual body and its consequences on muscle activation and body-related cognitive biases. See my project "BstrongBsmart" https://dalilaburin.wixsite.com/website/bstrongbsmart

Oct, 2017 - Sept, 2022
Assistant Professor
Smart-Aging Research Centre, Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer, Tohoku University (Japan)

http://www.idac.tohoku.ac.jp/kawashima_site/
I explored motor and cognitive processes related to ageing; I developed protocols to improve physical and cognitive functions of young people as well as elderly, using Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) and ICT-based solutions. See my projects KAKENHI, My-AHA and PADERO https://dalilaburin.wixsite.com/website/research

Mar, 2015 - Jun, 2015; Mar, 2014 - Sep, 2014
Visiting PhD student

Experimental Virtual Environment for Neuroscience and Technology (EVENT lab), Universitat de Barcelona (Spain)

http://www.event-lab.org/
I learned about IVR (programming, equipment setup, applicability, etc.) and I explored how the sense of body ownership over the virtual body can affect one's own movements.
 See for details https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0209899

Jan, 2013 - Jan, 2017
PhD in Neuroscience
Doctoral School of Life Science and Health, Department of Psychology, University of Turin (Italy)

https://dippsych.campusnet.unito.it/do/gruppi.pl/Show?_id=hhuv

I investigated bodily self-identity and body awareness with a neuropsychological approach and using different paradigms, including subjective, behavioral (e.g., the rubber hand illusion) and physiological measurements (e.g., motor evoked potential). Then, I combined them with IVR, exploring rehabilitative solutions for motor disorders. See my projects on body ownership/agency and motor intention https://dalilaburin.wixsite.com/website/research

Sept, 2010 - July, 2012

Master Degree in Psychology, Sciences of Mind

Faculty of Psychology, University of Turin (Italy).

Sept, 2007 - July 2010

Bachelor Degree in Psychology, Neuropsychology

Faculty of Psychology, University of Turin (Italy).
